The Law Offices of Nicole M. Bluefort’s Spirit of Excellence Scholarship

The Law Offices of Nicole M. Bluefort’s Spirit of Excellence Scholarship is an annual scholarship whose purpose is to encourage more African-Americans to pursue higher education while easing the financial burden of the expenses associated with attending. Applicants must reside in Lynn, Massachusetts, be graduating high school seniors of African-American descent enrolling in their first semester of college and will be the first generation in their family to do so. Scholarship recipients will be awarded based on their exemplification of academic excellence and commitment to community. Candidates are asked to write a short essay describing how they plan to use their degree to help give back to their community. The application is due Monday, June 17, 2024 and all winners will be announced by July 15, 2024.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
● Reside in Lynn, MA
● Be a first generation college student
● Be a graduating high school senior attending their first year of college in the Fall of 2024
● Academic achievement as reflected by a cumulative minimum 3.0 GPA
● Recipients must be of African-American heritage with at least one parent of African-American ancestry

Requirements
Applicants must submit the following by Monday, June 17, 2024
● Completed application form
● Attach an official and complete copy of high school transcript(s)
● Attach a copy of an acceptance letter from an accredited 2 or 4 year college/university
within the United States
● Proof of Lynn residency (Utility bill (not cell phone) dated within the past 60 days, a deed,
closing or mortgage payment dated within the past 60 day, a current lease (1-year minimum
term), Section 8 agreement, or Residency Affidavit letter)
● Able to attend an awards dinner in July (date and location TBD)

Award

● Scholarship funds are to be used exclusively for tuition and related expenses
● A check for $1,000 will be made payable to the award recipient’s college/university to cover these expenses

Deadline
● Completed applications must be submitted no later than Monday, June 17, 2024
● Up to 6 winners will be selected to receive The Law Offices of Nicole M. Bluefort’s Spirit of Excellence Scholarship
